16 Feb What Is A Spousal RRSP?
A spousal RRSP is an RRSP opened by your spouse, but you can contribute to it. Your spouse is the legal owner of the RRSP and makes all decisions pertaining to it, but the contribution amount is based on your contribution limits and you claim the tax deductions. This allows you and your spouse to income split at any age; you determine the amount of split that is happening based on how much you contribute.
